This link above was the music listened to while Victoria created this piece. She used colours that pertained to the different instruments heard in the song. Her colour pallet for this piece included white, grey, black, blue, cold and warm reds, orange, yellow, and greens. She experimented with many different versions of the composition but ended up going with this one. She was inspired by many of Kandinsky's works and the colours and lines he created on his pieces. Her other compositions can be found in "Process Work & References".rf44r

Watermelon, 2024

Oil on canvas paper

10”x8”

This study was done by smearing thinned oil paint with a cloth, slowly building up the layers. Victoria chose red and green hues, not only because they were complementary colours, but because in the way this piece was composed it looks like a watermelon slice.

Jace & Vi, 2024

Acrylic on canvas paper

9”x11”

This piece is completely original and inspired by Mondrian's pieces. This piece kick-started Victoria's obsession with the colours red, blue, and yellow. This piece brought her many issues and headaches this piece remains to be so much more than coloured squares and black lines. The composition is inspired by a scene in a show called Arcane created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee and based on the game League of Legends. The reference Victoria used for this piece can be found in "Process Work & References".

My Current Mood, 2024

Victoria took inspiration from Kline's pieces and the way he laid down the strokes so effortlessly. Victoria took interest in his style because of his black and white pallette.

Ascension & Deterioration, 2024

Ink, oil, string, and nails on canvas

36" x 48"

Victoria's underlying topic or theme is mental health, more specifically mood instability. Mood instability is the uncontrollable fluctuation of emotions that change quickly. Mood swings occur due to hormonal changes as a teen matures. Many other factors affect mood swings such as stress, social life, independence, identity, neurodiversity, and self-expression.

Victoria's message behind this piece is to spread more awareness about mental health, specifically mood instability. To be able to look out for people and ask them if they're okay once in a while, because you want to be there for them when they're not okay. The crocheted black yarn she strung through the nails represents a person's mood and the drastic highs a teen experiences as well as the lows one experiences. The ink lines that cross all over the canvas represents the things and people in our life that influence our mood. Victoria chose a grayscale palette to keep things simpler and more uniform. She painted the sides bright red to add contrast to this piece. Majority of pieces she's done in and out of school has a black and red theme going on.
